  1. a type of people called the Amish.

  2. its called coolism. only cool ppl follow it.

  3. Amish maybe?

    Technically they are Mennonites

  4. The Religion is called Mennonite.  They are known as the Amish.  I am actually not sure of their beliefs and views except that they tend to keep very much to themselves, don't believe in modern conveniences and live the way their ancestors in Europe did.  I am sure you can look them up in Wikipedia for more info

  5. You may be thinking of the Amish, or possibly Mennonites.

  8. Possibly the (Closed) Brethren? Which, if I am correct, are a strict form of Plymouth Brethren.

  9. You're probably thinking of the Amish.  If you've seen the movie Witness, with Harrison Ford, you'll have seen the Amish portrayed on film.

Some other people who answered have said that the Amish and the Mennonites are the same thing, but in fact they're two separate groups, although in many respects they are extremely similar.

One significant aspect of the faith of both Amish and Mennonites is that only adults are baptised.  A person has to be an adult believer to receive baptism.

  10. I don't think it's their religion but it's a type of people called Amish.

  11. Thats Amish

  12. Could be the Amish sect.

  13. You might be thinking of hippies.  You can distinguish them by their distinct odor.

  14. The original name is Quakers and now they changed it to Amish.  Wow, so how long do you think they hair gets?  I hope they shave.

  15. I believe that you are speaking of the Amish Mennonites.  They are a religious order that tends to keep to a rigid set of standards creating a simple lifestyle than many in the modern world do not understand.  Their beliefs are pretty much in line with Scripture from what I can see of course the way they live their lives are a lot different than most everyone else.  Since the Amish believe they are not to be conformed to the world, they decided in 1919 not to be connected with the power lines which would link them to the rest of the world. Therefore, the Amish do not have electricity. It is not because they believe electricity is an evil thing, but it would compromise the integrity of their way of life. One must elect to become an Amish, even if they are born into this culture. Many who were born into this way of life have left it in order to live a modern life. An outsider can become a member of this order if they learn to abide by the rules, the culture and the language. For an outsider to become a member, they must be aware that they will have to cast aside their ties to the outside world and give up what we consider necessities (television, cars, radio) to live a simple life.  An untrimmed beard is the mark of a mature married man in the Amish culture. They do not wear mustaches because it is associated with the military. Since they are a people of peace, they do not wish to look like those who kill for a profession.  Sounds a bit odd but hey, if that's the way they want to live. :)

Holidays the Amish observe include Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Ascension Day, Pentecost, and Whit Monday. There is nothing elaborate about these holidays. It is supposed to be a time to fast and meditate on the Bible and their commitment to God.  Well that's a little bit of the history of the Amish. I hope this helps.

  16. Do you mean the Amish?

  17. The Amish, Mennoites, and The Bretheren are all sects of the Anabaptists. The stirctest sect is the Brethren, the Amish are in the middle, and the Mennoties are the least strict. Generally, the stricter the sect, the more German and less English they will speak.
