  1. eat foods that have more fibers as well as protein.

    eat more peanuts.

  2. this is very complicated question, but to put it simply the most accepted scientific view is in a normal diet carbohydrates should make up 60% of you caloric intake - around 2000-2400 calories a day. This can be achieved by high carb breakfast (cereals and pancakes etc) and having potatoes, rice, bread etc. The remaining calories should be from fat 20-25% and protein 15-20%. A simple way to increase protein intake is a few cups of low fat milk or yogurt and eating meats, eggs, beans etc.

A high carbohydrate diet speeds recovery from training as well as being the main source of energy. Protein is needed for repair and can be used as a feul source. Fats are needed to help provide energy and helps store vitamins.

Thats is the basics, but then it gets far more complicated with vitamins and minerals, which are also required for a cycling diet as well as any other diet. We also need vitamins to combat free radicals - as well as loads of other individual reasons. I think vitamins C, A, E and D are very important - not to say that other vitamins are not. Other minerals needed in your diet are  Zinc, Iron, Calcium, Cystein and countless others

I know you say you are a beginner, but remember that feuling for training is different to feuling for recovery

For more information as i feel i cannot really tell you everything on here, i would definetly say to get this book

  3. eat lots of vegetables and only a bit of meat try not to eat prosesed food eat brown rice not white cut down on bread ect...

  4. There is no one food.  You need some protein, some carbs, and some greens every day.  Go to the library and get a sports nutrition book, or even a basic nutrition book.

Read this column called the Feed Zone by Monique Ryan.  She is a respected sports nutritionist who writes for Velonews.

One of her books may be at your local library.

One important thing is pre-ride hydration and post-ride hydration and glycogen and protein replacement.  You'll read about that in Monique's columns.

Also, read the Toolbox section at Pez Cycling News.  Very good stuff.  http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=toolbo...

    Good luck with your riding.
