It is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment of an individual's birth. This is different from your sun sign, or just "sign", which is the sign where the Sun appears at the moment of your birth.

As others have said, that is an astrology question that is better asked in the horoscopes section under music and entertainment, but astronomy has its roots in astrology, just like chemestry has its roots in alchemy, so I answer these when I can.

The rising sign refers to your sign in astrology (i.e Cancer, Sagitarus, libra, ect.)
