  1. there is lots to go at , it is under constant pressure and constant defence work and proposals are implemented due to its major importance , there was flooding in parts but when I am not sure , I think you may find at the Dutch section . good luck . 1993 1995 serious flooding that brought together an Actionplan of defence works for the Rhine see Action plan on flood defence river Rhine on web . it necessitated the formong of a group of countries / states to get together and produce an overall action plan , good document look it up .

  2. to be honest, you could use any flood that ever happened (actually you can use vesuvius eruption AD79 for volcanoes). But, as long as you use sensible responses/effects for the country (MEDC/LEDC) and convince the examiner, you will be fine.

  3. I've been in Germany since 1992 and can't remember having heard about the Rhine seriously flooding in all that time, although my memory mightn't be entirely reliable.  It certainly doesn't flood much.  All kinds of engineering projects have tamed the river's natural inclinations since early in the nineteenth century.  About two hundred years of serious effort has gone into straightning it for the convenience of shipping, dredging to keep channels open and to stop it flooding.  It's an internationally important transit route for moving freight to and from Rotterdam, Europe's busiest trading port.

    Update

I've remembered there was some flooding a year or two ago in the Altstadt ('old town') of Cologne.  That must've been Rhein related.
