  1. in New Zealand the role of the no.8 is not only in the forwards but he must cover the backs like a 2nd fullback and can be the last line of defense,he also pretects the halback in set play.He also steadys the scum and is always the first to break away with the ball scrum time. Its probably the most important position on the field and its not for the feint hearted,i know iv played no.8 at school and club level before switching to centre.

  2. To score, tackle and play rugby

  3. pick off the back of the scrum, jump and/or lift in lineouts, score tries, ruck, make tackles, cover back, support own team's players. a no.8 has to be a complete all-rounder and a particularly good ball carrier

  4. He's generally a strategist and an all-rounder.  He's also at the back of the scrum, and is a controlling influence on the "forwards" or "the pack".  Remember that in the England team, the position is occupied by Lawrence "The General" Delaglio.

  5. well really, hes got a few roles

he holds together the second rows, he can be used in certains moves for example picking and running or passing it to the scrum half to try and creat an overlap and can dictate the scrum pretty much!

  6. He dictates, leads and controls  the forwards!

He should also be the main ball carrier that gains ground and at times, as Ryan Jones does, play scrum half to create overlaps and dummies!
