  1. A guidance counselor is more concerned with getting you on the right track, as an overall picture of things. For example, a high school guidance counselor's job is to help you figure out how to finish high school, by telling you what classes to take, and etc.

Whereas a teacher only guides you through his or her own area of expertise. They are less specialized in what it takes to finish high school.

  2. A teacher is responsible for a classroom, planning, instruction, and assessment for their assigned students.

A guidance counselor is responsible for the oversight of the credits and monitors overall performance of a group of assigned students.  Often works as a liaison between teachers, students, administration, parents, social workers, etc.  The guidance counselor keeps track of the student's progress in school and give advice to students and parents.

  3. a guidance counsilor sits behind a desk.  a teacher is on the front lines.
