It can be everything from getting coffee for your boss to actually doing most of the work for him.  Usually the higher up you go as an admin the more travel plans you make for your boss.  But always it's about answering the phone and mailing or copying things.  Sometimes if you get to be a really important admin you get to have a temp (temporary worker) help you with your projects.

    If you have an admin and are low in the ranks of the company they will usually ignore you.  Then you can complain to your boss who will probably do nothing and you'll have to do whatever it is you needed in the end yourself anyway.
