  1. Al is extracted from bauxite which contains oxides of Fe,Ti,Si etc. as impurities. When the ore is leached with NaOH aluminium passes in to solution as sodium meta-aluminate and impurities settel down in the bottom and are rejected.

          Thus, the role of leaching is to remove impurities from ores.
