  1. well, captured women were considered loot and seen as a sign of status.  Chryseis and Cassandra.  Any children they had by their captor would be considere legitimate.  Free women that were married were considered the holders of their husband's honor to a certain extent and Agamemnon left his wife in charge of his kingdom for a good ten years or more.  His daughter was considered one of his most beloved and therefore her sacrifice to the gods to stop the winds that kept the invading Greek fleet from sailing to Troy was considered a sign of his deep commitment to the cause.  Women in ancient Greek society held many positions and its an individual call by call basis but if I was going to make a supposistion based on his actions - I'd say, on the whole, Agamemnon at least tended to view women as objects and possessions.  He seems to have very little understanding of the fact they might have their own personalities and reasons for action - hence getting chopped up by his wife and/or lover and not seeing it coming.

as for the sentence - my guess - drawn out, considered thought and the advice of trusted friends lead to the right decisions whereas a man that's rash or doesn't take advice will tend to make the wrong ones.
