What is the room under the staircase called?

I live in a 2 story house and there is a room below the stairs the door is on the left hand side below the staircase.. what is that room called?

I'd call it a closet.

Broom closet or Harry Potter's room.

I used to have one of those rooms in my house as a child.  I loved it!  It had a little window and everything.  We just called it a closet.

My Gran used to call it a glory hole, but I think that means something else these days.
