I am about to purchase a new Samsung LCD TV.

I want to know:

what is the rule for the relation between screen size and the distance you will be watching the TV from?

(I'm worried that I might buy a TV that is too large for my room).

  1. If it fits.... financially, and aesthetically.

Actually, you may want to take some black tape and put it on a wall that you are planning on using the new TV.  Make sure it is the dimensions of the new proposed set.

If the taped area doesn't look too big, then you are probably fine.

There really can't be a rule of thumb here.... everyone is different.

  2. Here's a great article from Crutchfield that will help answer your ?.

  3. A rule of thumb when selecting a TV screen size is to take the distance that you will sit from the TV (in inches) and divide by 2 and then divide the same distance by 3. These two results will give you the most comfortable screen size range for your viewing distance.

    Example: 8' viewing distance (96") = 32" to 48" TV screen size.

  4. you want to be more then 8 feet away from a really big screen its hard to tell without the size though

don't get like a 61 in if you are putting it in a bedroom those types are for living rooms
