This happened to me and the ball could not be placed on the spot when removing the rake as the slope was too severe for the ball to remain there.

  1. the rake is a man made obstacle which means the rake can be moved and the ball will be as it lies

  2. You pick the ball up as it is, no cleaning, move the rake and place the ball back as near the original condition as possible, no penalty.

  3. When the ball lies on the obstruction, you lift the ball, remove the obstruction and drop (not place) the ball at the spot where it was.  (Rule 24-1b)

If it rolls more than two club-lengths, or rolls out of the hazard, you need to drop again. If it does it again, you would place it on the spot where it landed. (Rule 20-2c)

If it rolls when you try to place it, you would place it on the nearest spot where it will stay in place. (Rule 20-3dii)

In all situations, you can't go closer to the hole, and you can't go outside the bunker.

From the USGA Rules FAQ: http://www.usga.org/questions/faqs/rules...

  4. you can move the rake without penalty. mark your ball before moving the rake. if the ball moves you can replace the ball by your marker possible.

  5. actually..thats wrong..you have to play it as it lies..if it is buried in the lip you have to take an unplayable lie

  6. Im pretty sure you get a free drop, since it was a man made hazard like, it was left there. Ex hose. So you get a free drop, two club lenghts from the spot not closer to the hole

  7. Pick it up and give it a toss.

  8. what johns 817 said....2 club lengths no closer to the hole....man made obsticale
