Ijust bought a used vehicle, but i don't have tags for it yet, it's a holiday weekend and I will register it next week. So if i have a bill-of-sale and proof of insurance can i still use my vehicle until i get it registered and tags put on. Were talking about one weeks time.

  1. what's wrong with tomorrow?  tags are required on vehicles.

  2. legally, no. Probably yes, just make sure that if you are pulled over, and be very, and i mean very polite, more than likely you will have an opportunity to have the ticket waved after you can provide proof that you got your tags, usually within a week or so.

  3. I don't know the law in your state, but I think you have a certain (like 10?) number of days to get a vehicle registered and get license plates in Indiana.  I would imagine that most states have similar laws.  Frankly, I would not be worried about driving with the bill-of-sale and proof of insurance.  But get the vehicle properly plated as soon as you can.  If it goes too long, they can tow the sucker & you wind up with a big bill!

    Happy motoring!

  4. It is not legal to operate a motor vehicle without tags. There is a very high chance of a ticket and/or impound if pulled over. And being a holiday week-end the police will be searching for violations.

The best bet is to keep it parked til you get tags.
