Question:

What is the ruling on Swarm of Scarabs? About Flipping up and down and down and up?

I had a question for smart yugioh players and it comes up sometimes. When I run Medusa Worm and Swarm of Locusts and someone attacks them on their turn. Their turn ends and now its my turn. Can I flip it down and then flip it back up... Since I am allowed one movement of a card per monster? And if that was true then the monster would stay face up and until I gave up a turn to leave it face down it would continue to do that.

I mostly have this issue with swords or Golem Sentry.

  1. Yes you can because u flip them down due to their effect and since u can change a monsters position once per turn u can flip it back face up. but you just cant flip it down again

  2. Yes you can do that.  It's basically allowing you an extra movement per turn for those type of monsters.  If it is face-down, then you can flip it face-up and get its effect, then use its second effect to flip it face-down.

If it is face-up already, then you have a choice.  You can do 1 of 2 things.  You can activate its effect and flip it face-down, then flip it face-up to get its effect, but you won't be able to flip it face-down again until your next turn.  This means that you'll have to be able to protect him for that turn or risk losing him in battle and probably taking massive damage due to their usually low statistics.  Your second option is the better one in my opinion in this type of situation.  You can flip the monster face-down and just leave it there until your next turn.  Just because you can use the effect doesn't mean you have to.

In any of those situations, however, you must be able to protect those monsters as their effects don't activate when they are attacked.  They are not flip effect monsters and their effects don't activate upon flipping them in battle.  They only activate when you flip them during your main phase.  You definitely need alot of stall cards when it comes to cards like Swarm of Scarabs or Swarm of Locusts.  Any of the following cards will help you: Gravity Bind, Messenger of Peace, Level Limit - Area B, Swords of Revealing Light, Nightmare's Steelcage, Wall of Revealing Light, etc.

  3. Yes, you can flip it up then its effect goes off then you can flip it face down, it can only work once per turn. But, if it was face up then use its effect to go face down then you will have to flip it up effect goes of and the Swarm of Scarabs will be left face up still.

  4. yes, as it's effect allows it to. however, if worm or swarm gets attacked it will probably die because of it's low stats, and as it requires to be flip summoned then it's effect won't work (as only flip effect monsters (FLIP:) can activate after an attack (unless the card says so))
