i remember watching rainman and dustin hoffman would only fly quantas as it was the safest, in light of recent events with quantas i was wondering

what is the safest airline, when you factor in the number of miles flown etc, what company has best safety record

Quantas is, in fact, the safest airline. They have never had a crash or fatality, including today's incident where the had catastrophic decompression. A large hole was blown in the side of their 747 and the pilot made an expert professional landing.

They are all safe - they can't afford not to be. Crashing a jet and killing a couple hundred people is bad for business. We haven't had a plane crash in the U.S. in quite a while and there isn't one airline that's worse than another.

If you have time to worry about some silly statistic like this then you have time to ride your bike to the next destination. Pick the cheapest - that's the safest route to go.
