I'm due to have baby #2 in a week and all of a sudden we have ants coming into our home! At first there were just a few in the kitchen cabinets so I cleaned everything out and killed them and they left, but now they are getting in our clothes! It's crazy and I'm about to have a baby and don't want ants in the house. They are bad in the yard as well. I wanted to go buy an ant poison that doesn't have too many harsh chemicals that my husband can use in the yard and all the way around the house and then something safe for in the house. Any suggestions? Thanks

  1. You might consider an ant-predator like a gecko-lizard.

  2. theres Sweetn Low-- sprinkle that around --it kills them

You can mix a littlle sugar with boric acid-- that works.

Get a jar of jam or jelly and mix with boric acid and drop it around outside the house.

BTW--Roach Proof  or Roach Pruf (sp?) is really boric acid.

  3. Use the packaged ant traps you see in the grocery and hardware stores. Use a paper towel when you touch it and wash your hands.

  4. Get a botanical solution called "Spinosad". It's made from a bacterial fermentation that produces a nerve toxin. Greenlight makes some. Use it as a broadcast bait or for individual ant hills. It's best to put it out in the spring or fall, or early morning.

  5. Get yourself a bag of cornmeal from your grocery store, put a small pile down near where you see ants running around. The ants will gather it, take it home and eat it. Ants can't digest it, so it kills them. Might take a couple of weeks but it works. Cornmeal is cheap, easy to find, get the real cornmeal, not the cornmeal mix as thats mixed with flour.

All the best having a healthy, happy baby!!!

  6. Try using Terro indoor and outdoor ant "traps." They work by allowing the ants to eat the bait and then taking it back to the queen, therefore ending the problem at the source. The baits are easy to use and the chemicals don't get all over the place. I also had luck putting dishwashing detergent or soap around places that ants come in. Coffee grinds are also supposed to work but I never tested this comprehensively.
