to make sure that the horse in front of u isnt too close make sure u can see its shoes while its moving because when the horse is 2 close 2 u u cant see its shoes!!!!!

At least one horse length.  As long as the back legs of the horse in front of you can't reach your horse then you should be ok but you also want to leave room for you to react if the horse in front of you starts throwing a temper tantrum.  :-)
