  1. Throw it in the back yard. It's eatable, and will keep the small critters nice and chubby for larger critters...

  2. Never pour oil down the drain. Even small amounts will  clog the plumbing.

Used cooking oil can also be composted with other organic matter. If you have a compost heap or a healthy backyard earthworm population

Registered transporters pick up the cooking oil and grease so it can be recycled into livestock feed or into biodiesel, a cleaner-burning alternative fuel for diesel automobiles and trucks.

  3. You could always drink it. Mmmmm cooking oil.

  4. I put mine out in the compost & garden area.

Bacon grease can be used to make home made bird bells!

Love the world around you!  Pandora

  5. That is a main ingredient in some alternative fuels like Bio-diesel

if you save a couple gallons they may come to you to pick it up.

Just do a little research in that direction

    Hope that helps

  6. With cooking oil DON'T put it down the drain as when it get's blocked, and it will, it will stink the place out really really badly!  Trust me, housemate did it all the time, drain got blocked and muggins had to take a day off work while the plumber came round and nicely explained it wasn't his job to unblock drains caused by stupidity but he would do it anyway!  Housemate is now ex-housemate.  What I do with any oil left over is pour into an old plastic bottle.  Keep doing that until it's full, it's a smallish bottle, and then pour it onto the compost heap where it helps all the worms get fat and make my soil nice.  Hard fat can be put in old flora tubs (or similar) to make fat cakes for birds (but don't put them out if you know there are lots of rats in your area) - simply mix with some wild bird feed and leave to set - easy and environmentally friendly.

  7. put an ad in the paper or put up a flyer that says FREE used cooking oil!someone will come and get it and pour it into their deisel car

  8. Disposal & Recycling

No cooking oil or grease down the drain!

Why shouldn't I just pour used cooking oil down the drain?

Cooking oil and grease poured down drains can build up in pipes causing backups at home, into streets and the storm drain system. Proper disposal of your cooking oil and other greases and fats will help prevent a sewage backup in your home.  Overflows can pose health and environmental hazards, polluting local creeks and San Francisco Bay.

What about using my garbage disposal, hot water or detergent to wash grease down the drain?

These methods won’t prevent grease from building up in sewer pipes. Home garbage disposals do not remove grease from the plumbing system. Hot water will cool down in pipes causing fats and grease to coagulate. Detergents that claim to dissolve grease may cause blockages to occur further down the pipeline.

May I throw cooking oil in the trash?

Small amounts of oil can be placed in tightly sealed, unbreakable containers in the trash. It is not recommended to dispose of large amounts in trash as containers may leak, causing problems with garbage trucks and at solid waste facilities. For more information about avoiding clogs, see our residential fats, oil and grease brochure (1.6 MB), a PDF file that can be viewed and printed through Adobe's free Acrobat Reader.

How can I recycle cooking oil?

Bring it to an EBMUD residential cooking oil and grease drop-off location! Registered transporters pick up the cooking oil and grease so it can be recycled into livestock feed or into biodiesel, a cleaner-burning alternative fuel for diesel automobiles and trucks.

What should I do with small amounts of fats, oil and grease?

Scrape excess food waste from pots and pans into the garbage after cooking. Wipe pots, pans and cookware “clean” with a disposable towel prior to washing. You can dispose of small amounts of fats, oil and grease in tightly sealed containers in the trash, or save it in a re-sealable container and bring it to an EBMUD residential cooking oil and grease drop-off location.

May I recycle motor oil, too?

Please do NOT combine motor oil or other automotive waste with cooking oil and grease. Motor oil will contaminate cooking oil and grease and then it cannot be recycled. Keep automotive waste separate from cooking fats. Some EBMUD residential cooking oil and grease drop-off locations will also take automotive wastes separately. Links to their websites provide details on what these centers can accept.

  9. Cooking oil is biodegradable. It will most likely be consumed by small insects before too long anyway. It is not the same as oil in your car. You can simply throw it away in your trash can, dump it in there. Unless you have a lot to throw away then I would try to dump it in the gargage over a period of time to avoid getting any big spills.

Great idea there, spend how many gallons of gas or diesel to pick up a cup of cooking oil to turn it into biodiesel? Maybe a great idea around town hitting the restaraunts but not such a great idea making house calls.

Better yet, maybe set up a recycling post for cooking oil somewhere central.
