Question:

What is the safest form of heating?

Since I've been considering moving into a large, older house which is very cold, I've been thinking about heaters. When I discussed it with my mother, though, she started to terrorise me about what kind of heater I could have with me, alone, and she told me I was absent minded with them, and couldn't trust myself.

Then I thought, well, it's my home I can do what I like, and I want to her to visit me, but I wonder if when she visits, she might go off at me if she sees I've bought a fancy heater.

Do I ignore her, or should I be determined to live in a way which will bring me happiness, and are heaters with the look of an artificial fire, safe enough?

  1. You can get an electric heater that is filled up with a fluid.  I think it's oil inside it but it just gets hot.  The eclectic heater looks like a radiator and they are very safe.  They get hot but will not start a fire if you knock them over or put something on them.

You may want to put baseboard electric heat in that has more power.  You will need to call an electric company that does wires to help you put it in.  The portable heaters really don't have the power to keep you warm in January.

  2. Is she worried that you won't remember to turn it off and it'll overheat? You can get lots of heaters these days that have overheat protection. This sunbeam one has overheat protection for example. http://www.sunbeam.com.au/products/produ...

You could also get yourself a timer to turn off the heater at a certain time so you don't forget to yourself, that usually works for me.

Really, you're an adult. Your mother is obviously allowed to have an opinion but she can't make decisions for you, which is why you don't live in her house. You can have whatever heater you want!

  3. As you say its your house. Yes the ones that have artifical fires are good. When mothers are happy they buy presents.
