  1. travelers checks or a debt card passworded

  2. Travellers checks or prepaid credit cards that are insured.

  3. When you go overseas you need your money accessible by more than 1 means.  Just because you don't want anything to be stolen doesn't mean it won't happen.  Just be careful & keep your cash close to you.  Try to have it stored in more than 1 place, cause this will cover you if one lot does go missing.  (eg something around your neck and tucked into your shirt, something around your waist & your bag/wallet - go to a shop that sells suitcases, they will have a variety available).  Some suggestions for funds access:

A credit card for emergencies (make sure you use a provider that has low fees & an interest free period).

Take some of the local currency with you (remember when you arrive, you may want a drink or need to pay for a taxi to get to your hotel).

Visit a post office or bank & get a Travellex cash passport.  These cards look like a cashcard (you get 2), can be used anywhere in the world that accepts visa (the most widely accepted card in the world) & spit the local currency out of the ATM's.  They can be reloaded in person or by internet use, have no name or pin number recorded on the cards (so if they are stolen no one can use it as they don't know your details to answer id questions) & are slowly replacing travellers chqs.

DO NOT, I repeat, do not use travellers chqs if it can be avoided.  They have one of your signatures on them & need another when you use them.  Therefore, they are easily used for fraud.

    Good luck & safe travels.
