What is the safest way to donate something overseas?

I just don't trust giving money to charities as we often hear of people pocketing the money for themselves.

Maybe a way to buy a product first for the purpose of donating?

  1. You could lend money through kiva.org. Money goes to fund people who are beginning or expanding businesses in poorer countries.

    Novica sells crafts, etc. made in developing countries and assures that the makers get a larger proportion of the sale price than standard arrangements provide.

    Try a group that has transparency or a long history of working without "pocketing." UMCOR, CARE, World Vision all have good reputations and people "on the ground" all over the world so they don't have to reinvent the wheel every time something happens.


  2. A charity will be able to get the product cheaper than you could, and save on shipping costs.  They will also know what products are needed most.  The key is to find a reputable charity, and it would be really nice to see a graphical breakdown of what percentage of their income goes toward program, administrative, and fundraising expenses.  Click here:
