What is the safest way to get rid of menstrual cramps?

I have not tried any medicine yet because i'm afraid it's not safe, and I don't want to get addicted to it, where I think I should take it every time i'm on my period just because I think it helps. Before I think about medicine, are there any natural cures? Thank you for taking your time to answer my question and it's very much appreciated.

I'm a teen btw.

  1. I also take midol when i get cramps, it really helps and i only need 2 at the start and then none again for the rest of it. But i also put a heating pad on my front and on my back and pretty much curl up in a ball for a couple hours. The heat is the best thing for the cramps, i really really dont recommend alcohol, hello addiction!!!

  2. I hate cramps and unfortunately I get them every time!  Like you, I don't want to get an addiction to medicine, but the only thing I can recommend is to eat as healthy as possible.  Avoid junk food at all costs!  Drink water and eat one or two pieces of crystalized ginger.  Plus, sip a hot cup of raspberry leaf tea.  That is the best you can do!  And like everyone has mentioned, put something warm on your abdomen like a heating pad.  :)

  3. As far as I know, it's not possible to get addicted to any of the pills you can take for menstrual relief, but they do work better for some people than others. They never helped me that much, for example.

What did was exercise, all through the month, not just around the time of my period. I also noticed that dairy products seemed to make them worse, so I cut dairy out of my diet as much as possible (I love yogurt and ice cream). That may or may not be true for you, but you could try keeping a food diary for a couple months to see if you notice whether your cramps are easier or worse depending on what you eat. Another food issue I had was chocolate. I've heard it helps some women, but in my case, it was a surefire way to go from uncomfortable to literally writhing in pain. (The chemicals in chocolate contract your uterus.)

Having a baby appears to have gotten rid of them once and for all, but I wouldn't advise that for anyone unmarried or younger than about 24. You gotta live your own life for awhile before you turn it over to someone else. :)

  4. The previous answers were great, but I want to add something to it... which might sound crazy. Take a little bit of alcohol, not much. it'll warm up your belly, and once it is warm, the cramps will go. However, it happens that you like alcohol and you body accepts it, but when you have your period, your stomach wil reject it and you will throw up. Just try and see, if it is not the case with you, it'll help. But don't take it with medicine.

  5. You can get rid of cramps by exercise. Being physically active will ease cramps because exercise releases endorphins. Eating healthy and getting enough sleep also can keep you feeling your best.

Sometimes putting a warm water bottle up against your belly will help too. A nice worm bath is another option.

  6. Well I'm 12 and everytime I have my period I just take 1 Menstrual Relief pill. It really helps, it's safe, and trust me, I'm not addicted to them, lol.

But I'm not sure about natural cures... I know that you're not supposed to eat/drink anything sour or spicy during that time because It'll make you gain more weight and make your period last a little bit longer. You can drink a lot of water, I think that helps. I'm not sure. Good luck :]
