What is the safest way to get tree sap off a car's windshield

use a box cutter blade keep it almost flat to the windshield and you can pretty much clean all your windows like that and it is very safe.. thats what people who tint windows  use to clean them before the tint goes on  its easier if you spray some windex first so the blade slides easier

you should go to your local auto parts store (i.e. kragen, autozone) and get goo-gone or a similar product. it's application is for exactly what you need, hope this helped...

Freeze it with ice and gently chip it off? There are probably good paint-safe cleaners you can get at your local auto store to remove the sap.
