  1. This can be so widely scattered it will be a figure from the middle on all sides..(corporate,charter,airline).

After earning your keep as a CFI or other job for a while..

You will start out anywhere from 19,000-24,000/year (maybe with benefits). Then as you work your way up to a 3-4 year FO (only with an airline, you will promote quicker in private companies) you will make anywhere from 36,000-42,000/year. When you finally upgrade to captain...you can plan on anywhere from 55,000-75,000/year.

Now these are estimates only...Based on my friends with the airlines...and me as a corporate pilot...I just kinda took the middle of the road on everything...And of course..as you gain seniority and experience/type ratings...the money keeps coming in....good luck...hope this helps..

  2. This question is asked often, so search for previous answers if you want more details.

There are all types of pilots and all types of salaries.  They vary a lot depending on airline, airplane type, and seniority.  Here's some ballpark figures.

Typically, regional jet first officers start at around $20,000 a year.  Captains typically earn $60,000 to $90,000 a year.

Major airline first officers start at around $35,000 a year.  The captains of the largest planes with the most seniority top out at $150,000 to $200,000 a year (sometimes a bit more, but the salaries continue to fall).

  3. Depends upon the company. Starting out, you might qualify for food stamps. As you stick with it and either move on up a seniority list, or move to a better company (starting at the bottom all over again, mind you) you'll gradually get closer to a real living wage.

The days of the "rich airline pilot" are over pretty much. If you go into this field, do it for the love of flying. You'll never be happy if you're in it only for the paycheck.
