If you teach in a private school, you will probably make less than if you work for the school system. The beginning average pay for school district teachers amounts to $32, 000. Sad but true, though some states are better than others. Connecticut and California pay the most.

    Pay isn't everything, though. The time off is really valuable, especially if you have kids.
