  1. That niche alone is not gonna pay very well at all.  I've been in the training biz for 20 years and have seen a bunch try.  The simple fact is that most women do not want to train.  To train them effectively they are gonna have to get roughed up a bit....the ladies typically don't like that.  Women's self defense, as a self-contained class, is usually either taught at one day seminar's or occasionaly you will see it as a one night per week class at a gym or dojo.  These weekly programs are short lived.

As far as qualifications go that could be anything as there is no standardization in the industry.  This is how charlatans, rapists and child molesters constantly enter the business.

To be credible and have some integrity you'll need to be physically skilled and knowledgable in a couple of martial arts and well read on topics of awareness and street crime.  Gavin DeBecker's  "Gift of Fear" is essential reading.

At the end of the day teaching exclusively women isn't gonna pay the bills.  Of course you may discover the key to get the women out of the house if you agressively self-promote and market your service.

  2. John has given you a great answer.

You would be better off getting fitness certifications because their is no official licensing body for being a self defense instructor. Almost everyone claims to have taught self defense to the police or military but just what does that mean. Are they really certified? Nope.

You would have to promte yourself and the money you make won't be much.
