  1. Once the landing gear wouldn't come out and they prepped us for an emergency belly landing without it. Luckily it finally came down and we didn't have to go through that.

  2. Air Canada. Newark to Ste St. Marie. Prop plane one engine failed. 1967.

  3. Once, in Heathrow, on my way back from USA.

The plane bounced so many times, after landing, I went to congratulate Captain Kangaroo !

  4. the one where we had to put out feet through the floor and run like h**l when we landed !

  5. At Hong Kong. The old airport not the current one.

The approach is always over the city because the high rise flats prevent a landing in the opposite direction. On my day the wind was not favourable and the aircraft overran the end of the runway and finished up in the water. Its not too deep but I don' t want to do it again.

    Ian M

  6. China last summer. The plane was landing in crosswind, bounced twice and leaned to the side. I was in the window seat and thought the wing was going to hit the runway. Scary stuff.

  7. Port Harcourt, Thick Fog, three attempts abandoned, running low on fuel and had to go for it on the fourth try, could just see the runway from window as we touched down, would not want to do it again

  8. Into Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The runway has pot holes in it, and the front wheel broke off on my American Airlines flight. That was pretty scary.

  9. Landing in Tahiti! Last year, we took a tour from Papeete to a small remote tribe on a small island. It started to rain and thunderstorm and we were on a boat-plane so we land in the water. But we could not because there were huge waves! So after we circle the island about 12 times he decides to land and this huge wave almost flipped us! But we were safe and we got back to the resort in perfect condition.

  10. A couple have been a bit unnerving.

    1.  Around 30 years ago in Madeira on the original runway.  To make a final approach the pilot had to circle the peak of the island coming in lower and lower, then stall the engines over the runway so that the plane literally dropped onto terra firma.  To take off, the plane had almost empty fuel tanks and did a few minutes short hop to a neighbouring island with a longer runway for refuelling.  You were allowed only 1 cup of tea or coffee on board - they couldn't risk the weight of beer!

    2.  On South Island, NZ.  A small plane after a bus trip to a Sound.  The plane almost literally "climbed" up the rock face to gain height before heading back to Queenstown.

  11. Casablanca with Air Maroc.Wind and rain blew

us all over the place.Never knew setting feet

on the ground could feel so good.Felt even

better after visiting the toilet to change my nappy.

  12. My very first flight was a nightmare, the so called pilot landed the plane like a fish jumping into the ocean, it was horrendous and almost put me off flying ever again but as it was a Ryanair flight I knew any other flight had to be much better.

  13. Landing on heavy snow and ice in Lapland! Ohh and the takeoff back out was quite hairy too!
