i have to read the secret sharer and heart of darkness by Joseph conrad for an ap English class and i want to know what I'm reading about before i actually start reading them.

and what kind of reading strategies should i be using to understand the book better because i have heard the book uses a lot of symbolism and the theme is supposed to be "profound and deep"

its about this dude name elmer who always buys things in bulk like at sams club and stuff, when ppl see him with all that stuff they say things like' hey elmer thats way too many pickles for you' and stuff like that, but when they are not looking elmer goes around the neighborhood and local parks and such sharing the pickles and other bulk goods w strangers

quite touching if you ask me
