  1. At Florida airports now you'll get your finger prints scanned at passport control. It's pretty simple. You also get a photo taken i think if I remember correctly. Apart from that, it's just the usual metal detectors and x ray'ing of baggage. I've never had any problems although you do hear some scare stories. You'll get handed a visa waiver on the plane about an hour before you land. Make sure you fill in that correctly and if you make a mistake, just ask for a new one. Don't score stuff out and make a mess of it. That's the only thing that could hinder you getting through.

  2. on the plane you'll have to fill out two forms (one white, the other green)  as part of the visa waiver programme, asking you to declare the details of your visit to the US. Upon landing you'll be asked to give these forms to an immigration officer along with your passport where he/she may ask you further questions. Your fingerprints and an iris scan will then be taken to confirm your identity and whether or not you have any sort of criminal record (which may affect whether or not you will be permitted to enter). hope this helps

  3. On the way back to the UK, the only strange difference is that, when passing through Security in Florida, you'll have to remove your shoes and run them through the x-ray.

You didn't mention if it's a direct flight to Florida.  If not, there might be a baggage recheck issue at the connecting airport.  When we fly from Gatwick home, we have to connect at Newark.  There, we have to claim our bags and rescreen prior to the second leg flight.
