I have a Linux system running as a file server with Samba. The Macs have no problem being able to automount and connect to this Samba server on boot up. What setup is required on Windows XP so that the Samba drive on the Linux system appears on the desktop at boot up on the XP?

  1. first of all on linux system u need to configure a user for samba

like i have bill user on linux system then use smbpasswd  -a bill

then set the password for bill but the shared folder shold be configured either with public option or user bill shold be added in smb.conf file..

now on xp box right click on the my computer right click on it then select map network drive option there and use this syntax like \\computername\sharename  or click browse select the share and nd ur done if u have prblem then try connect to share via run  type \\computername\sharename it will ask u for user name bill and password u configured then u try the first process i told to u

    Goodbye
