  1. Probably phenylthiocarbamides (20 letters)

  2. Your question is confusing. "What is the shortest English word with 16 different letters?"

No word with 16 different letters can be shorter than any other word with 16 different letters. Whatever the words are, they all have 16 letters.

*I assume you mean words with 16 unique letters.

  3. Demographics and misconjugatedly.Unprosperousness and esophagographers contain 16 letters but the letters repeat at least once or twice in the words.

  4. the longest word you can type properly by using only one hand on the keyboard is "stewardesses" :)

  5. What about adding an "s" to make it 16 letters -

    uncopyrightables

What you're looking for is a called an "Isogram" - a word with no repeated letters.  Wikipedia doesn't list any isograms longer than 15 letters, except for "uncopyrightables"...

Ross Eckler found the word "subdermatoglyphic" (17 letters) in an article written by Lowell Goldsmith.  Not sure if that counts as a word though.  It supposedly means "pertaining to the layer of skin beneath the fingertips".
