What is the shortest commute from hartford to uptown manhattan?

my husband has to move to hartford soon because of work and i am trying to figure out whether it would be feasible for me to commute 4 days a week from hartford to uptown manhattan? what is cheaper? driving or public transport? what public transport options are available? anyone know? the last option is for us to do long distance, as i cant currently leave my job in NYC...

any help would be appreicated.

Take Amtrak.   Otherwise you will hit rush hour in 5 different cities on the way....  that's just a horrific daily commute.

If you want to save money, take Amtrak from Hartford to New Haven, then switch to Metro North.    On a train at least you can relax... and you won't hit traffic.   Probably cheaper as well.
