Well, it has many aspects, the Indian Premier League. First off, let's be clear on one thing. The IPL kick-started as a result of the ICL. No matter how much Lalit Modi claims that it was on the cards etc etc, the truth is the IPL would never have gone off the ground had it not been for the ICL.

Now the IPL means big bucks. Big bucks for the players (at times disproportionate to their talent), big bucks for the sponsors and franchise owners and above all, big bucks for the BCCI.

However, the amount of international players in the IPL, and the huge amount of experience they bring with themselves is definitely going to benefit the domestic players. It can help them grow and ultimately emerge as world-class cricketers themselves.

The t20 format though is mainly for the spectators. In 20 overs how can you expect a class player like Jacques Kallis to showcase his goods?

So summing up, the IPL has major significance in today's world. But it doesn't necessarily have to be all good.
