Why do they wear camouflaged uniforms? What are the advantages? Who first introduced it?

  1. OK... what does the word 'camouflage' mean? Look it up to make sure you understand it. Then you'll have your answer.


  2. The human eye evolved to recognize patterns, and movement.  Also, there is no symmetry in nature (desire for symmetry is a human viewpoint).  Ergo if one can break up a pattern, and reduce/eliminate symmetry-one can hide personnel and equipment from observation.

    Camouflage introduces those random patterns and asymmetric lines.  That's basically it.  For other forms of observation such as IR, some uniforms reduce/disperse IR signature as well.

    First forms of camouflage predate organized warfare.  Hunter-gatherers were using local dirt/plants and animal skins to both disguise their shape and smell.  It's been around almost 20000 years in one way or another.

  3. Camouflage and DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) is very important, put it this way, you can't shoot what you can't see can you?

  4. camouflage is used so the soldiers can not be seen. That's what camouflage means,eh?
