What is the significance of the fact that the narrators room was originally a nursery?

  1. i'm not certain on this but we discussed this story in my english class and never got a "for sure" answer...so i don't think there is one.  As the reader we aren't even certain if she's staying in a nursery at all.  She's quite obviously crazy and believes her physician is her husband(personal theory we don't know if they're married or not but since he requested two beds and never sleeps w/ her or anything of the sort it leaves me to wonder)  She also thinks it was a gym and a day center but it has chains hanging from the walls.  She found crevices and holes in the bottom of the walls just around her bed that fit her shoulder perfectly which means she's been on the floor circling her bed on her hands and knees.   So perhaps the significance of her staying in a "nursery" is that she isn't staying in one at all.
