What is the significance of the poisonwood bible tree by barabra kingsolver?

Probably there is no special significance.  I suspect that it's profitability was significant to the author and publisher, though, so it is a subjective matter.

SO, significance, how?  To whom?  In what area, and from what perspective?  I can assure you that it is completely insignificant to me.
