Franz Ferdinand- His assassination sparked the war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, and all the allies of these two countries.

Schlieffen Plan- Invading neutral Belgium caused the British entry into the war.

The Lusitania- Its sinking by the Germans was a major contribution to the US entry into the war.

Trench Warfare- Made World War I a war of attrition. Caused foot disease for soldiers.

League of Nations- Without the US and Wilson's policies, it became a weak organization post WWI.

The Bolshevik Rev- Caused Russia to exit the war, due to turmoil in their country.

Treaty of Versailles- Its harshness on Germany contributed to World War II.

The New Deal- FDR's policy which saved the nation after the Great Depression. Created jobs and economic stability in the USA.

the S plan was the one the German had for a long time which was to rush through Belgium and lock the French troops in Lorraine and after that go straight to Paris. It was thought to end the war in a matter of weeks.

It actually almost worked but the French army stopped the Germans at the Battle of the Marne river.

The S plan called for an all out right flanking maneuver into France where the German army would take Paris and force the french to capitulate before turning to attack Russia.

In WW1 it failed because french troops were entering Germany in the   Alsace-Lorraine (sp). Germany called back the critical divisions to fight in the south and were left without the troop strength to take Paris.

In WW2 Germany followed the plan to the letter and France fell in short order.
