  1. It's the name of a book written by Pearl S. Buck in 1931 - it won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932. It was made into a movie in 1937. It is the first book in a trilogy continuing with "Sons",  and "A House Divided". It is a story of life in China.

It became popular again in 2004 when Oprah chose it for her book club.

  2. If you've read the book you shouldn't have any problem with this. It's about a farmer and all his happiness and wealth come from...you guessed it, the earth. Read the book!
