  1. The fruits of the following plants are very small nuts:

    Calopsis paniculata

    Parietaria judaica

    Betula species

    Cynomorium species

Not to forget the tiny nuts on strawberries

But there is not to find any rating, size ( in mm f.e. ) or size comparison.

The world's biggest sledgehammer is always being used to crack all these very small nuts, it does not matter, which one is the smallest.

By the way Coco-de-Mer is the largest nut on our planet:

  2. I'm not sure if you mean true nuts or nut-like also so I listed those commonly sold as edible nuts. Almonds are drupes. Pecans and walnuts are botanically called drupes by some and nuts by others but for commercial purposes are sold as nuts. Brazil nuts are seeds with a very hard capsule. Hazels, acorns, chinquapin and chestnuts are true nuts.

The worlds smallest seeds are from the Wolffia plants, Wolffia angusta & Wolffia globosa. Each seed is the size of a grain of salt or 0.3mm.

One way to compare sizes is by counting the number of nuts per ounce.

Pine nuts are perhaps the smallest at 5x10mm depending on the tree species but are not true nuts, they are classed as seeds botanically. ~150 /oz

    pistachios 45-49/oz - seed

    20- 24 almonds /oz - drupe

    6-8 brazil nuts/oz- seed

    pecans 8- 10/oz - drupe

    walnuts 5-7/oz - drupe

The beech tree produces a small true nut about 15 -20 mm by 7mm in a small triangular shape. It comes in a spiky involucre  holding two nuts.

The manketti  or mongongo nut is about the same size as a filbert or hazel nut. ~10 nuts/oz

Juglans butternut tree - related to walnut - drupe
