  1. Get a portable one on casters/rollers to wheel from room to room.

The intake/exhaust are on a flexible low profile insert for your window.

  2. you can get them at home depot....the depth, height, and width, believe it or not is about 20"x20"x20" and 10000 btus will cool approximately 450 sq ft so i would say this is the unit you need.....cost is around $200 and comes with a remote control and a timer....you can get smaller units like 7000 btu and 6500 btu but then you cant cool the space you need to

  3. a rule of thumb

    500 ft x 30 btu/hr/sqft = 15,000 btu/hr

  4. No you're better off getting 12,000 btu for 500 sq ft room. It has to handle the size of the room. If you go with less than the size of the room in sq ft room you're going to have problems with moisture or dampness.

    400 to 450 square feet = 10,000 BTUs

    450 to 550 square feet = 12,000 BTUs  (recommend)

If you want to save money and get something stable. I would say go to Sams Club or Wal-Mart or Wal-Mart SuperCenter. The policy at Wal-Mart is that the unit comes with 1 year no questions exchange. So should the unit fails within the year of purchase you can get a new one. I had purchased 4 ACs based on square footage in 2007. All are electronic with wireless remote. GE brand. I only had one that made a noise so I had returned it for a brand new one from GE. No mores.

    problems.

I say use electronic tape measurer to get the right size of the room. Their are some that use a roller that you can roll around the walls of the room.

Then I had gone to this site using the Calculator for Square with my measurements:

    http://www.flooringwebsite.com/Calculato...

Base on the results I was able to find out what I needed for each room in BTU to cool the room.

Look for this size air conditioner

    100 to 150 square feet =5,000 BTUs

    150 to 250 square feet = 6,000 BTUs

    250 to 300 square feet = 7,000 BTUs

    300 to 350 square feet = 8,000 BTUs

    350 to 400 square feet = 9,000 BTUs

    400 to 450 square feet = 10,000 BTUs

    450 to 550 square feet = 12,000 BTUs

    550 to 700 square feet = 14,000 BTUs

    700 to 1,000 square feet = 18,000 BTUs

    1,000 to 1 400 square feet = 24,000 BTUs
