What is the sodium/salt level in tofu like?

I'm avoiding salt because of the health problems it causes like high blood pressure and Interstital Cystitis. I'm not trying to lose weight.

Serious answers only please.

  1. Most tofu is low in sodium (under 70mg) unless seasoned with high sodium seasons.

  2. I checked two different packages of tofu I have hanging around.  The silken tofu, Mori-Nu, has zero sodium.  The Whole Foods store brand, Chinese style tofu, also has zero sodium.  It's what you ADD to the tofu that's going to affect the sodium level.  If you buy tofu at your local health food store or grocery store, it should have packages in English.

  3. Tofu is like a powerfood. It's full of the vitamins you need, and low in sodium and fat (fat-free, most often).

  4. Look on the package you freakin idiot

  5. 10% or less. Also start looking in Natural Health food stores for all your food.

  6. On its own, tofu is very low in sodium. Plain tofu only has about 14 mg of sodium per 4 oz serving.

However, if you buy marinated tofu, or if you marinate it yourself, the sodium content goes way up because most marinades contain soy sauce or canned broth. The actual content will depend on the marinade.
