  1. very vague question! the soil there is just like the soil here (arizona, us), i've been there a couple of times and I didn't notice a great difference in soil, but then again, that's not something I was meticulously paying attention too. it's not sandy all over of course. there are different types of soils depending on where you are exactly.

  3. It depends. Eastern Syria is almost entirely desert, and as such, is made up of sand. Western Syria is part of the fertile crescent (or Levant) and usualy has rich deposits of clay. Silt can be found up by the Euphrates and alond other rivers.
