The Ksp for SrSO4(s) is 3.2 x 10-7. Calculate the solubility of SrSO4(s). Ignore any potential reaction of the ions with water.

Thanks for your help!!

  1. Isn't SrSO4(s) insoluble?

    Sorry for not being much help, I'm only a student :P

  2. SrSO4 ------  Sr+2  + SO4^-2

    the solid dissolves to the extent X to produce X amounts of Sr+2 and X amounts of SO4-2   so if the Ksp = 3.2 X 10 ^-7 then

    [X][X] = 3.2 X 10^-7    X^2 = 3.2 X 10^-7    X = 5.65 X 10^-4 M

    so the solubiity of SrSO4 = 5.65 X 10^-4 M = 0.565 mM
