  1. When you break, you have the same chances of setting up your own shot as you do for your opponent, and even more of a chance tom sink the first ball. Just play the game and stop worrying.

  2. to break the balls, the best solution is hitting the with a hammer.

  3. put the cue on one of the sides and hit the side of the pack of balls. be carefull of your angle because you might scratch, but if you hit it right it will be perfect

  4. There are several different approaches to a good break in pool. Your main goals on the break are to scatter the balls good , pocket a ball , and try to leave the cue ball near the center of the table so you can have many choices for your first shot. As I said there are many different ways to achieve this and with practice you can find what works best for you. A couple of tips I can give you , Wether your hitting the head ball or the second ball in the rack try to hit it as full as possible. If you just graze the ball you will lose cue ball control and have a good chance of scratching. Secondly , do not grip the cuestick too hard. Squeezing the stick to hard will cause you to lose mobility in your arm slowing down your stroke , Grip the stick lightly. With some practice you'll get the hang of it. Never worry about what your opponent might do. When you step up to the table just play the best pool you can. Besides playing some good safeties and running racks there is nothing you can do to control your opponents game. It's all about you and your game and worrying about it can cause you to be off of your game so just forget it and play. Good luck to ya!

  5. Eightbraker should get the points on this one.  He is right on the mark about hitting your target ball full on.  When you don't hit the ball full on, you automatically lose about 50% of the effective force into the rack.  That's why you see these guys at the bar who break like maniacs and you usually have to bend over to hand them their cue ball from your bar stool 20 feet away.  If the rack is good and tight, you don't have to hit the balls all that hard to make them scatter.  Speed without control is worse than nothing.  Again, this one should go to Eightbraker.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
