all i can remember is that it says "sticks and stones" it wasn't a song they sang but it was a a song in the background at the beginning of the movie.

I think you might be confusing it with "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. which played in the trailer for "Pineapple Express." (That trailer was attached to all prints of "Step Brothers.") It has a refrain about "sticks and stones" at least twice during the song.
