Why it would be good to have it. And how to install it. Will it take away additional power from my car.

no that isn't a wast of cash at all this dude doesn't really know anything.  It is a distribution block and it looks sweet as h**l but it could actually save you money if you have 2 or more amps. It allows you to only run 1 set of wires from your battery instead of haveing to wire each amp to the battery(more feet of wire) also distribution blocks usually can make your system sound better. As for a loss of power it takes as much as your amp uses up
