so first,photosynthesis is:

6 CO2(g) + 6 H2O(l) → C6H12O6(aq) + 6 O2(g)

it is carbon dioxide.photosynthesis and respiration are interrelated,and do you remember your teacher saying that trees inhale CO2 and give of oxygen?that's the reason why.

Photolysis is a part of the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis. The general reaction of photosynthetic photolysis can be given as:

The chemical nature of "A" depends on the type of organism. For example in purple sulfur bacteria, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is oxidized to sulfur (S). In oxygenic photosynthesis, water (H2O) serves as a substrate for photolysis resulting in the generation of free oxygen (O2). This process is responsible for generating the majority of breathable oxygen in earth's atmosphere. Photolysis of water occurs in the thylakoids of cyanobacteria and the chloroplasts of green algae and plants.

Photosynthesis is an anerobic process. CO2 is taken in by the plant, the plant uses the carbon and the oxygen is released thru transpiration.

The source of oxygen in photosynthesis is water. It is been proved by using oxygen isotopes that water breaks down into hydrogen and oxygen by sunlight in the presence of enzymes. Hydrogen is taken up to make glucose and oxygen is released in air.
