A satellite is rereased to the rear of its host rocket in the line of flight

by triggering off a small explosion when the rocket is coasting in orbit.

the separating force is 480N acting for 1.2S. The mass of satellite is 960KG and

the mass of rocket after separation is 240KG.Find the speed of recession.

  1. We know that :

    F.dt = m.dv , so we can say :

    for satellite: 480x1.2 = 960 x delta(V)s

    for rocket:  480x1.2 = 240 x delta(V)r

    so, we calculate:

    delta(V)s= 0.6 m/s

    delta(V)r= 2.4 m/s

    As we know that these two parts eachother in opposite ways, we can say;

    Recession speed = delta(V)s - (-delta(V)r) = 0.6 -(-2.4)

    so

    Recession Speed = 3 m/s

    Take care
