What is the spice in the mexican dish made of hamburger meat and potatoes?

my boyfriend's mom makes it with fideo but all i know is it has hamburger meat and potatoes... i dont see any onions or ANYTHING else in it but i know theres a spice.. if any one could help meout..

The meet is called "milanesa de res" or just "carne de res"

The name of the "guisado" is carne con papas. It's made with jalapeño, chile puya or chile chipotle, garlic, onion, tomatoes, cumin, cilantro and obviously potatoes

Probably cumin (comino).

If it was something as obvious as chili (like from dried chili peppers), I'm guessing you probably could have identified it already.
