We just ordered Persian food at work and they gave us a bag of some sort of spice to sprinkle over rice. I was just wondering if anyone knew what it was?

  1. is it red?...then its sumac

  2. It's probably advieh, which is a spice mix sprinkled over rice (though some variations are also used in cooking stews and as meat rubs).  "Although its specific composition varies from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea, common ingredients include cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, rose petals or rose buds, cumin, and ginger. It may also include ground angelica, saffron, nutmeg, black pepper, mace, coriander, or sesame" (from wikipedia)

  3. Safron

  4. Probably tandoori or saffron powder

  5. Safron, is the yellow rice....The RED "stuff" you sprinkled on your rice is made from pomigrante roots. And my mind has just gone blank...lol....I'll remember late tonight...uggg! btw...I love persian food.!

  6. cardamom?

  7. Jasmine or Safron probably.

Edit: reddish-brown is safron. The best comes from Spain.
